Atmospheric emissions are considered one of the most important matrices to be checked in order to safeguard the environment and human health.

For this purpose, all companies, which, according to current legislation, are responsible for the production of emissions into the atmosphere or which are subject to self- testing, need to collaborate with a reliable and competent laboratory that can perform all the prescribed activities.

Our team of experts is able to perform the following activities, which, thanks to the operational offices and the technical staff present throughout the national territory, are performed promptly and with high standards quality:

  • Sampling and analysis of atmospheric emissions from any type of plant (chemical, petrochemical, cement, thermoelectric, pharmaceutical, production of plastic materials, small and large combustion plants, etc)
    • for the purpose of self-checks;
    • accurate characterization of odorous emissions (application of dynamic olfactometry UNI EN 13725 to determine the concentration of U.O. odors)
    • internal process controls;
    • characterization of the particle size curve
    • verification of long-term sampling systems for PCDD, PCDF and PCB according to UNI CEN / TS 1948-5

    • characterization upstream and downstream and verification of abatement systems;

  • Continuous monitoring of emissions with mobile unit equipped with FTIR system for the analysis of the parameters: CO, NO, NO2 (NOx), SO2, CO2, HCL, HF, NH3, H20, COT, O2

  • Characterizations of the sampling sections with verification of the homogeneity and the sampling point of the SME systems (where applicable) pursuant to par. 8.3 and 8.4 of UNI EN 15259;

A specialized team

In addition, our company boasts a highly specialized and qualified team for the purposes of quality checks of monitoring systems in continuous emissions (SME).

Specifically, in compliance with current legislation and technical standards, the following activities are carried out:

  • Verification of the quality of SMEs pursuant to UNI EN 14181 (this activity is accredited by Accredia UNI CEI EN ISO / IEC 17025). In details:
    • QAL2 – Second Level of Quality Assurance;
    • QAL3 – Second Level of Quality Assurance;
    • AST – Annual Surveillance Test
  • Verification of the quality of SMEs pursuant to Annex VI to Part V of Legislative Decree 152/2006 and subsequent amendments. In details:
    • Determination of the relative Accuracy index
    • Linearity test
    • In situ analyzer calibration with indirect dust measurement (powder meter calibration)
    • Emission characterization for SME replacement
  • Further activities:
    • Verification of the NO2 / NO catalytic converter in accordance with Annex C of UNI EN 14792

Sampling and Analysis of Atmospheric Emissions

LabAnalysis has been working daily and for more than 40 years in order to develop the potential of its Laboratory in such a way to guarantee customers a 360-degree service on the matrix of atmospheric emissions.

We have a considerable team of sampling technicians with specific skills available for the characterization of atmospheric emissions from emission points (chimneys) subjected to self-control to be carried out in accordance with current regulations (Legislative Decree 152/06 and subsequent amendments) and requirements in their authorizations.

The teams are dedicated only to sampling the air matrix, which is why they have levels of professionalism and experience above market standards.

The high specialization of the technicians means that they are used to working even in "difficult" conditions on large plants such as incinerators, thermoelectric plants, large combustion plants, cement plants, refineries or steel mills.

The instrumental equipment available for the sampling teams allows a very high flexibility in the planning of interventions in the field. The number of instruments is essential in cases where particular campaigns are planned such as testing tests or the characterizations of the emission points to be performed pursuant to UNI EN 15259 (verification of homogeneity of the flow and determination of the sampling point of the SME probes).

The sampling team has instrumental equipment for particular studies such as tests upstream of the incineration lines in which sampling is carried out with high temperature resistant probes.

Another field in which LabAnalysis is a national leader is the continuous analysis of the CO, NOx, SO2, O2, CO2, COT, CH4 parameters performed frequently with analysers, selected from the best suppliers on the market with the certifications required by current regulations approving the high quality of the same. Various mobile units are also available (insulated mobile laboratories equipped with an electrical and air conditioning system) equipped with analysis booths consisting of continuous CO, NOx, SO2, O2, CO2, COT analysis systems.

In addition to the above, LabAnalysis stands out in the market by offering an extended analytical set, compared to the standard one, thanks to a special mobile laboratory that allows direct reading analysis of HCl, HF, NH3, H2O, CO2, SO2, NO, NO2, CO, COT, N2O, O2. This mobile unit, unique in its kind, has, among the various technologies, an FT-IR analyser that allows the continuous analysis of the emissions of parameters that normally cannot be analysed by other commonly used technologies.

For this reason, our Laboratory is also a leader in the field of internal process controls, acceptance tests, characterization of abatement systems.

Our services do not end here as we have acquired over the years an important know-how also in the following activities:

  • Sampling and analysis of emissions coming from composting and bio-drying plants (biofilters) normally subjected to self-control in accordance with the relevant regional decrees (where present) or guidelines (ex. Guidelines for monitoring gaseous emissions from composting plants and composting and composting and bio-drying). Due to the different and available “movable hoods” we have the possibility to characterize different biofilters at the same time.
  • Estimation of the thermal efficiency, performed by determining the useful input and output power of a combustion plant in accordance with the provisions of the UNI EN 303-5 standard of the Guidelines of the Energy Services Manager - "Energy efficiency interventions relating to plants supplied by biomass and bioliquids "and "Procedure for verifying compliance with the performance limits of biomass and bioliquid plants".

Verification of the quality of continuous emissons analysis systems (SME)

One of the flagships of our Laboratory is certainly related to the verification of the analysis systems in continuous SME emissions.

The high professionalism and experience of our operators assisted by Project Managers have led our company to be a historical leader in this sector.

In fact, our client has the opportunity to be followed by our experts on planning the activities, on optimization of field tests and both in the post-reporting phase.

Our company, in the pursuit of continuous development, today also boasts a series of mobile laboratories and top equipment on the market. Moreover it has always invested in the perspective of quality, reaching the accreditation objective of Accredia UNI CEI EN ISO / IEC 17025 both for the parameters subjected to verification and for the main activity performed pursuant to UNI EN 14181 (Quality verification QAL2 and AST).

Still within the requirements of UNI EN 14181, we also offer the QAL3 verification service with the issue of the relevant certificate (QAL3 report).

In addition to the above activities, we also perform the evaluation of the relative accuracy index and calibration of continuous measurement systems for powders (dust meters) and linearity tests provided for in Annex VI to Part V of Legislative Decree 152/2006 and subsequent amendments.

Thanks to our organization, characterized by a large number of personnel, mobile units and portable P-AMS (EN 15267-4) analysers available, we can guarantee the coverage and replacement of the measurement of SMEs, provided for in accordance with par. 2.5 of Annex VI to Part V of Legislative Decree 152/2006 and subsequent amendments, in particularly time frames shortened by the activation.

Biomethane

Within the specialized area that deals with the "AIR" matrix there are experts in our company who deal with sampling for the purpose of characterizing the biogas, biomethane and fuel gas matrices. LabAnalysis was the first laboratory in Italy to carry out accreditation on the biomethane matrix and has already performed several characterization and start-up studies on production plants, developing specific methods for the determination of compounds of particular chemical interest.

Also, in this case, LabAnalysis has a state-of-the-art toolset that allows our operators to perform sampling in quality and safety, guaranteeing the representativeness of the result, thanks also to pre-post sampling on-site checks performed with specific direct reading analysers.

As far as the Biomethane matrix is ​​concerned, our Laboratory has been always on track on the development of the market which led the Managers to fulfil new requirements regarding self-checks. In fact, precisely for the prescribed checks, we are able to perform the sampling and analysis of all the parameters required by the specific UNI / TS 11537 "Injection of biomethane into the natural gas transport and distribution networks", UNI EN 16723 "Gas natural and biomethane for use in transport and for injecting into natural gas networks" and UNI / TR 11677 "Biomethane for direct use in motor vehicles".
